| Strategic Leadership Vs Instinctive Leadership...
When a team first begins a challenge or project in the workplace. There are 4 necessary steps that the team will make before becoming a coherent functioning and operating machine.
First, the team will rely on their primal instinct or response. People will revert to their natural state and make decisions based on their own personal values and moral systems.
Second, the team members will argue the most favourable way to go ahead and dive into the project. At this time, conflict may be underlying as the leader finds his way and the underdogs fall into place and take the advice of the leader.
Third, team members will retreat to their state of purpose and follow the direction they ahve been given. Whether they like it or not. Some team members may want ot speak up bu don't feel they have the opportunity. They may live in fear of the repercussions.
Last, the team will reconvene and decide on the ultimate plan of action. Some team members may not be happy and have still not been given the opportunity to give their input. However, they will accept the status quo and get on with it. If the project does not go as planned or fails miserably, they will be the first to say "I told you so".
How do you rectify this situation...stay tune for the answers next week as we bring you the 8 part series of how to build a lean mean fighting machine team!
